Mental Wellbeing at Work

Mental wellbeing at work is an important topic. For many of us, work is a major part our lives. Having a satisfying job is vital for your mental health and overall wellbeing. Stress-related disease has increased and this is very often related to work related issues. Mental health at work and a good wellbeing strategy  go hand in hand and there is huge evidence that workplaces with a good wellbeing strategy are more productive than their competitors.

Here are some good ways to improve mental well being at work:

1. Keep Active

Regular exercise will boost your self-esteem, improve sleep quality and increase focus at work. NHS guidelines recommend 150 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous physical activity a week. There are so many simple and easy ways to keep active throughout the workday. If you don’t have much time, even 10 active minutes can make a difference.

2. Eat Well

What we eat affects how we feel throughout the day. Eating a good diet will make a huge difference to both your physical and mental health. A good tip is to make time for lunch. Instead sitting at your desk tot eat make it a habit to get away from your desk to eat. Providing healthy food alternatives or rewards in your workplace can make a difference.

Awareness off mental health is increasing but we still face problems where people with mental health problems suffer in silence. A good wellbeing strategy will take in to account all aspects of health including mental and emotional. When we create workplace cultures where people can be themselves and talk about their mental health concerns without fear it’s far easier to improve employee mental wellbeing at work.
